Decoration: 5 Good Resolutions To Adopt At Home

How about starting the year off right by putting your home in order and renewing your decor to make it more zen, more functional and greener? We have listed for you 5 good resolutions to adopt in order to bring a breath of fresh air into your decor.

1- Sorting

The first of the 5 good decorating resolutions that you can adopt at home at the beginning of the year is to sort in your closets and in your decor.

Sorting is an essential first step to clearing out, whether you want to follow the minimalist decorating trend or simply make room for new items.

Plus, if you're planning to take advantage of the winter sale to renew your wardrobe or home decor accessories, sorting allows you to list what you really need to avoid unnecessary spending.

2- Recycle or reuse

After the big sort at the beginning of the year, your second good decorating resolution should be to recycle or reuse your old items.

To make your interior decoration rhyme with ecology and sustainable development, adopt the following good reflexes :

- Sort through your magazines and recycle those you don't want to keep in a paper recycling bin. Sort your books and give those you don't want to keep to friends, associations or your local library.

- recycle your old clothes in the dedicated recycling bins of your municipality or give them to associations

- Bring your old appliances to specialized stores (such as Darty or Fnac) to be recycled

- donate or sell the objects you no longer want. On the websites of classified ads between individuals or at garage sales, your objects will make people happy and will have a second life.

Note: If you don't want to part with certain accessories and decorative objects, reuse them by changing their location in the house. Changing objects to a different place or room allows you to showcase them in a new way and renew your decor for less money.

3- Set up a real office area

Since the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more of us are Telecommuting several days a week.

During the first lockdown, you may have experienced the discomfort of working on a corner table in the living room or kitchen.

If that's still your case, your third good decorating resolution for this year might be to get yourself a real office nook.

Even if you live in a small apartment, there's still a way to set up an office nook by carving out a dedicated work space in a part of your living room or bedroom.

Regardless of the location you choose, provide suitable furniture. In particular, have no qualms about investing in a good office chair. This is the most important element to avoid bad posture and chronic back pain!

Preferably choose a desk with drawers and provide storage space, such as shelves and boxes, to prevent your files from piling up in your workspace.

As a finishing touch, add a pretty table lamp and a green plant: both are optional, but they'll help you feel good about your Telecommuting days at home.

4- Change your bedding

If you're having bad nights and starting the year tired and looking bad, the fourth good decorating resolution to make is to change your bedding.

Good bedding is essential for a good night's sleep, which is why it's recommended to change your mattress every 10 years.

If yours is past that age, take advantage of January (the month of white) to invest in a more comfortable mattress. Also think about changing your pillows and perhaps purchasing an ergonomic Pillow that is more suited to your body type.

Your sleep is sure to improve and you'll be able to face the new year in better shape.

5- Going green

The green trend has been one of the major trends in home decor in recent years. It will be prominent again this year.

So, if you haven't already, your last good decorating resolution this year might be to add some greenery to your home decor.

Even if you don't live in a home with a garden, you can enjoy the Benefits of nature by adopting plants and flowers in your home.

More and more city dwellers are going green and collecting plants of all kinds, as pampering Green plants is a great way to escape and reconnect with nature when you live in the city.
