Vaujany: 5 Good Reasons To Choose This Village Resort

The resort of Vaujany in Isère is the latest French winter sports resort. Opened in 1989, it combines a family and rural atmosphere with facilities worthy of the big resorts. We have listed 5 good reasons for you to choose this destination.

1- Preserved authenticity

The winter sports resort of Vaujany was born in 1989 in the shadow of its imposing neighbour Alpe d'Huez.

Vaujany is one of the 20 communes that make up the canton of Oisans located in the north of the Isère department.

Unlike the other large resorts in the Alps, there are no high-rise buildings or large-scale holiday clubs, although the Pierre et Vacances and Odalys groups have set up establishments here.

Anxious to preserve its mountain soul, this destination cultivates the authenticity and spirit of a village resort.

2- Top-notch equipment

In Vaujany, authenticity is not incompatible with facilities worthy of the largest resorts.

The latest French resort offers 70 km of slopes and access to the Alpe d'Huez ski area with its 250 km of slopes.

It is also home to an Olympic ice rink where members of the French figure skating team come to train and an indoor swimming pool with a 25m Pool and a relaxation area including sauna, Jacuzzi and hammam.

The resort, which boasts an accommodation capacity of 3500 beds, even has two museums, a bowling alley, a fitness room and an indoor climbing wall.

3- An enchanting setting

Located on the southern slopes of Rissiou, facing the Grandes Rousses massif, the resort-village of Vaujany benefits from a preserved mountain environment at an altitude of 1250 metres.

Since its opening in 1989, the resort has developed within the old village in a reasoned way, reconciling tourist activity and respect for traditions.

Today, the old buildings stand alongside modern leisure facilities to offer holidaymakers a particularly rejuvenating setting.

4- A diversified après-ski offer

If the resort of Vaujany has everything to please ski lovers, it is not a village where life stops at 5pm, when the last skiers return to their accommodation.

On the contrary, this village resort offers a multitude of après-ski activities.

In particular, you can try your hand at curling and snow yoga or even enjoy an escape game called 'the infernal groomer': a fun way to explore the village via a smartphone app!

5- Leisure activities galore, even in summer

As you will have understood, the village resort of Vaujany is a destination where there is never a dull moment. Winter and summer alike, you can enjoy all mountain activities here.

If you go there for alpine and nordic skiing in winter, you will love to come back in the nice days to try the via ferrata and practice hiking or mountain biking.

The cascade de la Fare which faces the village is one of the natural sites not to be missed in the area.

To discover it, just take the via ferrata of Vaujany which offers two routes, one for beginners and the other for experienced practitioners

The first itinerary named 'la Cascade' is rather sporty, while the second called 'les Passerelles' is easier.
