The Thin Fig Tart: An Express Recipe.

If you are looking for a recipe using figs that is both very easy and very quick to prepare, try the thin fig tart! This dessert requires few ingredients and can be prepared in no time. But it is delicious and will allow you to treat your guests with this delicate and ephemeral seasonal fruit.

Ingredients

Here are the necessary ingredients to prepare a thin fig tart for 4 people:

about ten purple figs.
a roll of puff pastry.
2 to 3 tablespoons of fig jam.
1 packet of vanilla sugar.

Cutting figs

Purple figs are rather fragile fruits, to be handled with care. For the filling of this thin fig tart, I advise you to cut them into quarters.

1- Gently rinse the figs under a cold water stream.

2- Remove their stem if necessary.

3- Cut each fig into 4 pieces using a cutting board and a serrated knife.

Preparation of the dough

This recipe for fig tart is very quick to prepare as it uses store-bought puff pastry. Choose preferably a pure butter puff pastry and take it out of the refrigerator at the last moment so that it is cold and easier to handle.

The peculiarity of thin tarts is that they do not have edges. That's why, for this recipe, you don't need a pie dish or any other tart mold.

1- Unroll the round puff pastry on a baking sheet while keeping the parchment paper.

2- Proceed delicately so as not to deform the pastry and to keep the thin tart in a round shape.

3- Prick the bottom of the tart with a fork, making holes all over the puff pastry, including towards the edges.

Note: This trick prevents the pastry from puffing too much and deforming during baking. It also makes the thin tart even crispier.

Adding jam

Another characteristic of thin tarts is that they are devoid of cream between the dough and the fruit filling.

In this fig tart recipe, jam is used to ensure the binding between the dough and the fruit and to enhance the taste of the figs.

Evenly spread two to three tablespoons of homemade or store-bought fig jam on the round puff pastry.

Note: If you don't have fig jam, you can use a more common jam like strawberry jam.

Assemblage of the fig tart

Even though this fig tart is very easy to make, the most delicate step lies in the assembly.

1- Arrange the fig quarters on top of the jam, with the skin of the fruits facing up, in order to form a rosette.

2- Start from the edge of the tart and continue to cover the dough towards the center.

3- With the given proportions above, you should be able to make three rows of fruits, tightly packed together, as shown in the photo below.

4- Finally, sprinkle the tart with vanilla sugar before baking.

Note: You can also sprinkle this fig tart with a handful of sliced almonds.

Baking the pie

1- Preheat your oven to 190°C.

2- Bake the thin fig tart for 20 minutes until the pastry becomes golden and crispy.

Note: This fig tart is a more unique seasonal recipe than the thin apple tart prepared using the same method. However, just like the thin apple tart, it can be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
