Energy Balls With Prunes And Sesame: An Easy Recipe

Energy balls are a popular snack for sportsmen and women. They are a great way to recharge your batteries after a hard workout. Very easy to prepare and transport, these healthy treats, made of dried fruits and seeds, are a hit with kids and adults alike. Here is an easy recipe to prepare energy balls with prunes and sesame.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients needed to make prune and sesame energy balls for 4 people (that's 8 pieces):

4 pitted prunes
1 tablespoon honey
2 level tablespoons of water
70 g of sesame seeds
1 half teaspoon cinnamon powder
2 tablespoons of chocolate chips

To note: for the recipe pictured above, I used white chocolate chips. But you can also make a more chocolatey version using dark chocolate (see Variations below).

These 'energy balls' are very easy to prepare using a good blender. Simply place all the ingredients in the bowl of the blender, as shown in the photo below.

Preparation

The preparation of the energy balls is easy and fast.

1- Place all ingredients in the bowl of your food processor.

2- Blend for a long time, pausing every 30 seconds to spare the motor of your food processor, until you get a smooth consistency.

3- You should get a kind of thick paste, like in the picture below.

Assembly

Energy balls are small sweets made of dried fruits and seeds. Their preparation reminds us of chocolate truffles because you shape the balls in the palm of your hand.

1- Take small quantities of preparation with your right hand and form small balls in the hollow of your left palm (or conversely if you are left-handed).

2- Place them on a plate as you go along. With the proportions given above, you can prepare 8 energy balls about 3 cm in diameter.

3- Set them aside in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes before enjoying.

To note: these little energy balls can be kept in the refrigerator (at least if you haven't devoured them before!).

But watch your waistline: as their name suggests, they are very energetic and caloric! They are perfect to take with you in an airtight box if you are going on a long hike or have an intensive sports session planned.

Variants

From the basic recipe given above, it is possible to prepare infinite variations.

For a more chocolatey version, you can notably replace the white chocolate with dark chocolate and the cinnamon powder with unsweetened cocoa.

You can also substitute:
- prunes with dates or dried figs
- sesame seeds with flax or sunflower seeds or even almonds or shredded coconut.

After shaping them, some people roll the energy balls in shredded coconut for an even more appetizing visual.

As you can see, this recipe can be adapted to any taste. When not consumed during a sports workout, it is possible to serve these small healthy treats with coffee.
