Mon Psy: A New Psychological Support System

From April 2022, people suffering from anxiety or depressive disorders can take advantage of the Mon Psy scheme. In concrete terms, these patients will benefit, under certain conditions, from 8 psychological support sessions per year reimbursed by the Health Insurance. Explanations.

What does this new device consist of?

The My Psy device was announced by the government in September 2021.

It will be launched beginning in April 2022 for all patients over the age of 3 with mild to moderate psychiatric disorders.

This scheme allows eligible patients to benefit from the reimbursement of 8 sessions of psychological support per year, at a partner psychologist.

What are the conditions to benefit from it?

To qualify for the new My Psy scheme, patients must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 3 years old
- present mild to moderate psychological disorders, such as anxiety, depression, anguish, addiction to tobacco, alcohol or cannabis, or an eating disorder.
- be referred to a psychologist by their attending physician by means of a letter
- choose a psychologist participating in the program, listed in an online directory (see the official website below).

How is patient management carried out?

Patients in psychological distress must be referred by their physician who writes a letter to the psychologist.

This accredited professional estimates the number of sessions needed, knowing that coverage by the Health Insurance is limited to a maximum of 8 sessions per year initially.

Even if the coverage is capped at 30 € per session within the limit of 8 sessions, it should be emphasized that this is the first time in France that psychology consultations will be reimbursed and that this constitutes a very positive step forward.

Here is a summary of this scheme in video:

What conditions must the psychologist meet?

To become a partner in the My Shrink scheme, the psychologist must also meet certain requirements.

In particular, they must:
- be registered with his or her regional agency
- Have at least 3 years of professional experience in clinical psychology or psychopathology
- have signed an agreement with the Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie to participate in this scheme.

Psychologists can apply online. In addition, as of April 2022, the psychologists who are partners in the scheme will be listed in a directory that can be consulted online.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

As a reminder, a psychologist is a professional who has obtained a Master 2 level degree in psychology.

Unlike a psychiatrist, he is not a doctor who could if necessary prescribe you medication.

Rather, the psychologist is a specialist in behavior, emotions, and mental health.

He or she helps patients with moderate disorders through psychological difficulties.
