Teriyaki-style Chicken: An Easy Recipe

For everyone who loves teriyaki chicken but doesn't have teriyaki sauce at home, it's possible to make your own sweet and savory sauce in the spirit of this Japanese specialty. We offer you an easy recipe to prepare teriyaki-style chicken with soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger.

Ingredients

Here are the necessary ingredients to prepare teriyaki chicken for 4 people:

4 chicken fillets.
1 onion.
2 leeks.
4 carrots.
1 clove of garlic or one teaspoon of garlic powder.
1 cm of fresh ginger or one teaspoon of ginger powder.
4 tablespoons of sugar.
4 tablespoons of soy sauce.
2 tablespoons of sesame oil.
12 cl of water.
some sesame seeds.
chopped chives.

Chop the ingredients.

The first step to prepare teriyaki-style chicken is to slice the ingredients.

1- Peel the onion and cut it into thin strips.

2- Cut the leeks into quarters lengthwise and wash them thoroughly before chopping.

3- Peel the carrots and grate them.

4- Slice the chicken breasts into strips and set them aside in the refrigerator.

Vegetable Cooking

To accompany this teriyaki-style chicken, I recommend cooking some white rice and preparing a homemade vegetable stir-fry, using seasonal vegetables.

1- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a wok or frying pan.

2- Sauté the vegetables with a pinch of salt, stirring regularly for 2 to 3 minutes.

3- Cover the pan and continue cooking for a few minutes covered, adjusting the cooking time depending on whether you prefer the vegetables crunchy or tender.

Homemade Teriyaki Sauce Preparation

While the vegetables are cooking, prepare the teriyaki chicken sauce.

1- If you're using fresh ginger and a clove of garlic, grate both ingredients into a bowl. If you're using powdered seasonings, simply measure them with a spoon.

2- Add the sugar, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

3- Finally, dilute the sauce with water, mixing thoroughly with a whisk. Set aside.

Cooking Teriyaki Chicken

1- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in another pan.

2- Brown the chicken tenders over high heat for about 3 minutes.

3- Once the meat is well browned on all sides, add the teriyaki sauce.

4- Let the sauce reduce over high heat until it lightly coats the chicken in a teriyaki style.

Teriyaki Chicken Assembly

Once the various components are cooked, all that's left is to serve the teriyaki-style chicken.

1- Serve the rice in deep plates.

2- Add the sautéed vegetables on top.

3- Distribute the chicken strips among the plates.

4- Sprinkle each plate with sesame seeds and chopped chives.
