Sweet And Savory Chicken Skewers: A Delicious Recipe
To change things up from meat skewers simply garnished with onions and peppers, you just need to use summer vegetables and fruits like zucchini and apricots. I propose you discover an easy and very delicious recipe for sweet and savory chicken skewers.
Here are the necessary ingredients to prepare sweet and salty chicken skewers for 4 people:
4 chicken fillets
16 cherry tomatoes
2 tablespoons of soy sauce
1 teaspoon of ground cumin
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
1 teaspoon of honey
1 twist of black pepper
3 tablespoons of white sesame seeds
1 pinch of sea salt
1 tablespoon of olive oil for cooking
As in any kebab recipe, the first step to prepare the sweet and savory chicken skewers is to cut the ingredients.
1- Cut the chicken fillets into cubes of about 2 cm on each side.
2- Cut the zucchini into quarters, then dice the resulting sticks into 2 cm cubes.
3- Pit the apricots and cut them into quarters.
Once the ingredients are cut, simply skewer them on wooden or metal kebab sticks.
For assembling these sweet and savory chicken kebabs, I recommend alternating the ingredients, as shown in the photo below.
For example, you can start with a zucchini cube, followed by an apricot wedge, a piece of chicken, another zucchini cube, and a cherry tomato.
With the proportions given above, you can prepare two kebabs per person, with three pieces of chicken, two cherry tomatoes, and two to three apricot wedges per kebab.
Preparation of the sauce
The secret of sweet and salty chicken skewers also lies in their sauce made from soy sauce and honey.
1- In a bowl, mix soy sauce with honey.
2- Add garlic powder, pepper, and cumin.
Note: There is no need to add salt as soy sauce is already salty and you will be adding fleur de sel to the skewers after cooking.
Preparation of gomasio
To add a delicious finishing touch to your sweet and savory chicken skewers, I recommend using gomasio, which is a mixture of sesame seeds and sea salt.
Gomasio can be purchased in stores, especially in organic shops. It is also very easy to make it yourself.
To make a lightly salted gomasio, simply mix 3 tablespoons of white sesame seeds with a generous pinch of sea salt in a small bowl.
You can cook these sweet and savory chicken skewers on the barbecue or on a griddle. Personally, I used an electric griddle.
1- Heat up the griddle.
2- Lightly oil the griddle with a tablespoon of olive oil before placing the skewers.
3- Grill the skewers on all sides for about ten minutes.
4- When the ingredients start to brown nicely, pour the soy sauce and honey sauce over the skewers.
5- Let them cook for a few more minutes until the skewers are well caramelized, as shown in the photo below.
1- Place the sweet and salty chicken skewers on a plate.
2- Sprinkle them with gomasio just before serving.
3- Serve the skewers hot, accompanied by a green salad.
