Baked Sweet Potato Fries: A Light Recipe

Although I wouldn't go so far as to call them healthy, sweet potato fries are an interesting alternative to classic fries for getting children to eat vegetables. In addition, we significantly reduce the number of calories when we avoid cooking them in a pan or fryer. So I suggest you discover in pictures how to make sweet potato fries in the oven.

Ingredients

Here are the necessary ingredients to prepare sweet potato fries for 4 people:

2 medium-sized sweet potatoes
4 tablespoons of olive oil
1 teaspoon of salt
2 turns of black pepper
1 teaspoon of sweet paprika

Note: From this basic recipe, you can create countless variations with the spices and herbs that you like. For example, you can replace or complement the sweet paprika with Espelette pepper or add garlic powder and dried oregano. Don't hesitate to try different seasonings to find your favorite!

Cutting sweet potatoes.

The sweet potato fries recipe baked in the oven is rather easy to make. The most tedious step is cutting the sweet potatoes into sticks as these tubers have firm flesh.

1- Peel and wash the sweet potatoes.

2- First cut them into slices, using a large sharp knife and a cutting board.

3- Then cut each slice into sticks that are not too wide for faster cooking. Also, make sure to cut sticks of the same width so that the frying is uniform.

Seasoning sweet potato fries.

For seasoning these oven-baked sweet potato fries, I recommend placing the sticks in a large bowl and mixing the ingredients by hand.

1- Pour salt, pepper, and sweet paprika into a large bowl.

2- Add olive oil and mix everything together as if you were preparing a salad dressing.

3- Pour the sweet potato sticks into the bowl.

4- Mix the ingredients with your hands until the fries are well coated with spice-infused oil.

Preparation of the plate.

For baking sweet potato fries in the oven, I recommend using a large baking sheet and covering it with parchment paper to prevent the fries from sticking to the surface.

1- Preheat your oven to 210°C on convection mode. Convection mode helps to remove moisture and achieve crispier fries.

2- Meanwhile, cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

3- Spread the fries on the sheet in a single layer.

Note: If your baking sheet is too small, prepare two sheets! It's important for the fries to be well spread out and not piled up so they can cook evenly in the oven.

Cooking time for oven fries.

1- Bake the fries at 210°C.

2- Cook the sweet potato fries in the oven for about 35 minutes.

Note: The cooking time may vary depending on your oven and the width of the sweet potato sticks, so monitor the color of the fries carefully!

3- If you notice that the sweet potato fries are blackening too quickly but are not yet fully cooked, lower the oven temperature to 190°C halfway through cooking.

Tasting advice

These non-fried sweet potato fries are best enjoyed hot right out of the oven. They are delicious served with a meat in sauce such as mustard chicken in the photo below. Complete your plate with vegetables like green beans for a perfectly balanced meal.
