The Spotted Pothos: 5 Good Reasons To Adopt This Plant.

Have you heard of the spotted pothos? This green plant of tropical origin has only advantages or almost! We have listed for you 5 good reasons to adopt it in your apartment.

This plant has a very aesthetic foliage.

As its name suggests, the spotted pothos is characterized by its two-tone foliage, green and gray. This plant, whose botanical name is Scindapsus pictus 'argyraeus', has heart-shaped leaves that are satin and speckled with silver.

The uniqueness of its foliage is the first of the 5 good reasons to adopt it in your home. Although it is very rare for this tropical vine to flower indoors, this green plant is highly appreciated for its aesthetic appeal.

Note: it should not be confused with another plant also called "pothos" but with the botanical name Epipremnum aureum.

It is also important to know that its sap is slightly toxic and can cause irritations. That is why it is sometimes listed among the toxic plants for pets such as cats and dogs.

2- She is almost indestructible.

The second of the 5 good reasons to adopt a spotted pothos is the resistance of this plant. This green plant is particularly suitable for beginner gardeners and plant killers because it is almost indestructible!

Even if you don't have a green thumb at all, you can acquire this plant from the Araceae family because it is not demanding. Just provide it with a temperature above 15°C, a bright location, and well-drained soil for it to thrive.

Place it in a bright room but slightly away from windows, protected from direct sunlight. Provide it with regular potting soil with good drainage or orchid substrate.

Note: This species native to Southeast Asia is an epiphytic plant like orchids... In its natural habitat, it clings to trees and can exceed 10 meters in height.

3- She adapts to various situations.

In an apartment, the spotted pothos lends itself to various uses. In garden centers, it is actually sold as a simple potted green plant or on a trellis or in a hanging basket.

This tropical vine adapts to all situations, as it can be used as a climbing or trailing plant... It can even be used to dress up a living wall as it enjoys being trained on a support.

4- It is a depolluting plant.

Among the 5 good reasons to adopt a spotted pothos at home, it is also worth noting that this species is part of the green plants that purify the ambient air.

It is said to have the power to absorb various toxic substances such as toluene from paints and solvents, formaldehyde from furniture glue, and even carbon monoxide!

But of course, this beautiful green plant will not exempt you from opening the windows to ventilate your home twice a day. Remember that airing out the rooms is one of the most effective daily habits to fight against viruses and pollutants.

5- It requires very little maintenance and watering.

As we mentioned earlier, the spotted pothos is a plant that won't give you many problems. It is not prone to pests and diseases.

It does not require much care or watering. Even better, it clearly indicates when it needs water. So, if you notice that its leaves are curling, it's time to water it!

To boost its growth, you can also:
• mist it from time to time.
• provide it with very diluted green plant fertilizer once a month, in spring and summer.
• repot it every year in spring.

Finally, note that the Scindapsus pictus propagates very easily. In fact, each node of this plant has a root. So, all you need to do is take a few centimeters of stem with a node and a leaf to obtain a cutting and a new plant!
