Noble laurel, also known as bay laurel in cooking, is not only a seasoning that enhances dishes and broths. It is also a very useful medicinal plant in the form of essential oil to treat everyday minor injuries. We have listed for you 5 virtues of noble laurel essential oil.

1- Expectorant virtues

Among the medicinal properties of bay laurel, it is first necessary to emphasize that this plant has expectorant and mucolytic virtues. This means that it promotes the elimination of secretions in case of chesty cough.

In practice, this essential oil is recommended for all ENT infections, from the common cold to the flu, including rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, sinusitis, and bronchitis!

2- Anti-infectious virtues

The essential oil of noble laurel is also renowned for its anti-infectious properties, as it is both antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. As mentioned earlier, this essential oil is effective against respiratory infections but also, more broadly, against viral diseases such as the flu and gastroenteritis, for example.

You can take advantage of its antifungal properties in case of fungal infections or athlete's foot and its antibacterial properties against various skin problems such as acne, whitlow and pimples.

• rheumatic pain such as osteoarthritis or polyarthritis
• oral pain related to canker sores or gingivitis for example.

5- Repellent properties

Among the properties of noble laurel essential oil, it should also be noted that it can be used as an insect repellent. In the field of human health, it can be used as a natural remedy for lice and nits.

Note: even in the absence of lice, this essential oil is beneficial to the scalp if you suffer from dandruff and itching (seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp).

How to use this essential oil properly?

The essential oil of noble laurel is one of the essentials of your natural medicine cabinet because it can be used against many everyday ailments, for external or internal use.

For external use, dilute a few drops of essential oil in a tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Use this mixture to massage the areas to be treated:
• on painful areas in case of muscle or joint pain
• on the chest in case of wet cough
• on the scalp in case of lice or dandruff

You can also use a drop of pure essential oil:
• by applying it with a cotton swab on the area to be treated in case of fungal infection, canker sore or acne spot
• by applying it at your solar plexus or on the inside of your wrist in case of nervousness, lack of self-confidence and/or mental fatigue.

For internal use, it is recommended to dilute one to two drops of essential oil in a spoonful of honey and to take this mixture 3 times a day in case of gastroenteritis, cold or other viral infection.

Attention: noble laurel can cause allergies, so you must do a skin reaction test in the fold of your elbow before using it as an essential oil.

Like all essential oils, laurel essential oil is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy and in young children.
