Dressing Room: 5 Tips To Make Room In Your Closet

With the new year, you may be feeling the need to renew and clean your home. What if you start by putting your dressing room in order? If clothes fall out every time you open the door, it's time to sort through your possessions. Here are 5 tips to make room in your closet.

1- Take stock of what you already have

A good time to tidy up and clean out, the beginning of the year is also the time for sales ... But before you give in to the sirens of bargains, if you want to save money and decompose your closets, start by listing the clothes and accessories you already own.

As a rule, we don't have a clear picture of everything we accumulate in our closet. So the first of the 5 tips to make room in your closet is to do a big sort to visualize what you own that you don't need to buy again.

This awareness is usually beneficial because it helps to avoid making unnecessary and superfluous purchases. Buy only what you need is a golden rule to have a tidy house, but also to preserve the planet and your wallet!

2- Resist impulse buying

The second of the 5 tips to make room in your closet is perhaps the most difficult to apply, especially if you are a fashionista or a shopaholic.

And yet, one of the most effective ways to stop cluttering your closets and dressing room is to resist impulse buying.

Even though temptation is everywhere, especially during the winter and summer sales period, ask yourself before each purchase if you really need that piece of clothing or accessory...

If you're buying clothes online, a simple tip is to spot the pieces you're interested in and then wait 24 hours before placing the order. They say sleep on it, and the next day you may find that you don't need that piece on sale.

3- Be careful with the clothes you keep just in case

We all have in our dressing room, and I'm sure you do too, clothes that are a little too small or too big that we keep in case our weight changes...

Tidying up papess Marie Kondo is very clear on this point: even if you have a special attachment to certain clothes you wore when you were younger and have kept 'just in case', they are not useful to you.

So another of the 5 tips for making room in your closet is to sort through those clothes that are accumulating unnecessarily.

To help you do this, here's the advice given by Marie Kondo in her book The Magic of Tidying Up: for each item of clothing, ask yourself if it still brings you joy. If it no longer does, you can part with it without regret.

4- Don't be afraid of emptiness

For some people, it is difficult, distressing and even painful to part with old items, whether they are clothes or appliances.

If you're one of those individuals who doesn't like to throw away, know that this sorting process isn't easy for anyone, but it is rewarding. In the end, it generates positive feelings such as relief, well-being or pride in having put your house in order.

So another of the 5 tips for making room in your closet is to make the effort to start sorting and decluttering. Gather your courage and you'll see that your efforts will pay off!

You may have to push yourself to get started, but once you get started, it will become easier to keep going. Tidying up becomes easier as you free up space in your closet.

5- Share it with others

If the clothes you're parting with are still in good condition, think about donating, recycling or reselling them via specialized apps like Vinted.

It's a much more satisfying and eco-friendly way to part with your excess clothes than just throwing them in the trash!

Jeans and t-shirts you no longer wear can make for a happy few. Giving your stuff a second life through donation, recycling or resale is the last of the 5 tips for making room in your closet.
