  • Preparation time: 2 min
  • Cooking time: 20 min
  • Servings: for 4 people
  • Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients

  • - 1 or 2 fresh onions depending on your preference (you can also use frozen onions to save time)
  • - 1 pack of natural bacon (without additives for better flavor)
  • - 1 can of peeled whole tomatoes in juice (preferably use quality tomatoes)
  • - 2 glasses of bulgur (equivalent to 250 g)
  • - grated cheese (optional, but delicious for cheese lovers)

Preparation

1. In a non-stick skillet (a sauté pan, for instance), sauté the bacon along with the sliced onions. Surprisingly, there’s no need to add fat, as the bacon releases its own juices during cooking.
2. After about 5 minutes, add the bulgur, browning it while stirring regularly for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Incorporate the can of peeled tomatoes and mix everything well.
4. Reduce the heat to medium-low and add 6 glasses of water (reminder: this is 1 glass of bulgur for 2 glasses of water). Let it cook covered for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Cooking is complete once the water has completely evaporated. For cheese lovers, feel free to add grated cheese and let it melt into the bulgur.
