Anonymous Mothers On Arte: An Uninhibited Series On Motherhood

Starting Monday, December 18, Arte is broadcasting an animated series with uninhibited humor. In "Mères anonymes" (Anonymous Mothers), mothers who are not so fulfilled demystify pregnancy and motherhood to the great delight of viewers. Here's what you need to know about this short program with biting humor.

Graphic novel adaptations

The new animated series on Arte, "Anonymous Mothers," is a television adaptation of the graphic novels by the same name, published by Dargaud. These graphic novels, created by Gwendoline Raisson and Magali Le Huche, humorously shatter the myth of the perfect and fulfilled mother.

In the series directed by Hélène Friren, Gwendoline Raisson brings to the screen the comic strips she envisioned with illustrator Magali Le Huche. She turns them into 30 short episodes featuring a support group for overwhelmed mothers.

Following the model of Alcoholics Anonymous, these women share their experiences and strive to free themselves from the codes and dictates of motherhood. In this support group, they are joined by Étienne, a "new father" on parental leave.

Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown

As in the film by Pedro Almodovar, but in a slightly different context, the Anonymous Mothers imagined by Gwendoline Raisson are women on the verge of a nervous breakdown. As mothers, they endure unprecedented social pressure and mental burden.

In graphic novels and this television adaptation, they come together to share an unfiltered speech. Since they became mothers, their lives are far from being baby pink... Their daily routine has become supercharged and full of obstacles that no one prepared them for.

Their parental mishaps give rise to a series pumped full of politically incorrect humor, much to the delight of parents who will undoubtedly recognize themselves in some of the characters.

A short, humorous format broadcast daily.

The adaptation of these graphic novels into a series takes the form of a short animation format. Arte will broadcast 30 episodes, each lasting 4 minutes, from December 18, 2023, to February 15, 2024.

In each episode, a mother speaks out and addresses a new theme related to motherhood and its challenges. To better decipher the joys and sorrows of parenthood, this animated series humorously deals with divisive subjects such as breastfeeding, sharing of chores, and the countless demands society places on mothers.

These little gems of politically incorrect humor can be found every evening on Arte from Monday to Friday at 8:50 p.m. If you are eager to discover them, know that all thirty episodes are already available for replay on arte.tv.

This program is highly recommended for all parents as it is good for morale and the zygomatic muscles! These episodes may not provide solutions to your parenting problems, but they will surely help you to put them into perspective.
