Triathlon: Nice Will Host The Ironman World Championships
Already known as the host city of Ironman France since 2005, the city of Nice will host the Triathlon World Championships from 2023. Here is what we already know about the next editions of the Ironman World Championships on the French Riviera.
Worlds move from Hawaii to Nice
The World Triathlon Championships have so far been held in the Hawaiian city of Kona in the Pacific Ocean, which is the historic home of triathlon. But they will soon change the setting as Kona will share the honor of being the host city for these worlds with Nice in France!
Mayor Christian Estrosi announced on January 5, 2023 that Nice will host the next edition of the Ironman Men's Worlds. The Côte d'Azur city is considered the cradle of long-distance triathlon in Europe, which undoubtedly motivated the choice of the organizers of this flagship competition.
As a reminder, Nice was the first French city to host a competition stamped Ironman in 2005 and has been organizing an international triathlon since 1982.
The men's final is expected in Nice in September
In addition to this historic announcement, which should excite triathlon enthusiasts, Christian Estrosi has already announced the date of the next men's triathlon world championship.
The sport will be celebrating on the French Riviera as early as next fall, as the City of Nice will host the Men's Ironman World Championships on September 10, 2023.
The triathletes who will take part in this race will not be too unfamiliar as most of them have already participated in the Nice International Triathlon. The many professionals who have come to race on the Promenade des Anglais have in fact helped make Nice one of the most prestigious triathlon destinations in the world over the years...
'Nice has established itself as a true land of sport', rejoiced Mayor Christian Estrosi, whose city will also host the arrival of the Tour de France 2024 (a historic exception in the history of this cycling race due to the Paris 2024 Olympics in the capital!).
The men's and women's events will be held alternately
The organizers of the World Triathlon Championships have also clarified that the Women's Worlds and Men's Worlds will now be held alternately in Hawaii and Nice.
Very concretely, the Men's Worlds will be held in Nice on September 10, 2023, while the Women's Worlds will be held on October 14, 2023 in the Kona district of Hawaii, as shown in the official video below :

The following year, it will be the other way around with the women's events on the French Riviera and the men's events in the Pacific. This alternating organization has already been entered into until 2026. Sports enthusiasts in the Côte d'Azur can therefore look forward to exciting events in the pipeline!
In summary, Nice will host the Men's World Championships in 2023 and 2025 and the Women's World Championships in 2024 and 2026.
The Ironman France is still held in Nice
This historic announcement, which makes the city and its mayor Christian Estrosi proud, does not change the organization of Ironman France, which has been held in Nice since 2005.
The next edition of this event, qualifying for the world championships, will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
The sporting challenge will once again be at the rendezvous since the Ironman long-distance triathlon includes 3.8 km of swimming followed by 180.2 km on the bike and concludes with a marathon, i.e. 42.195 km of running!
