March 10 I'm Reading: Participate In A National Quarter-hour Of Reading

In this year when reading has been designated as the Great National Cause, the National Book Center (CNL) invites all French people to take part in a national quarter of an hour of reading. This event, called 10 mars je lis, will take place on March 10, 2022 at 10 am. Get your books off the shelves!

What is the principle?

The 10 mars je lis event is aimed at all French people and gives them an appointment on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 10:00 am.

At that time, everyone who can is invited to interrupt their activities to read a few pages of a book of their choice for 15 minutes.

This national reading quarter-hour replicates the principle of the reading quarter-hour deployed by the Ministry of National Education in schools since 2018.

So, tomorrow at 10am, get ready to interrupt your regular chores to take a reading break! Do you already know which book you want to read?

What is the point?

In schools and educational institutions, the quarter-hour reading has helped develop the pleasure of reading in children and ritualize the practice of reading on a daily basis.

Reading is a source of pleasure and escape that is easily accessible. And yet, many of us don't find enough time to read a little each day.

With the March 10 I'm Reading event, the CNL's goal is to invite all French people to rediscover a taste for reading by giving themselves, as is already practiced in schools, 15 minutes of daily reading.

Who is participating in this event?

The national event 10 mars je lis is organized by the Centre national du livre (CNL), in collaboration with the association Silence, On Lit!

More than 800 structures in France will participate in this first edition organized at the initiative of the CNL.

Participants who have registered on the event's website include companies, associations, libraries and media libraries, administrations and communities, not to mention several thousand primary and secondary schools.

All structures wishing to participate in this event can find a practical guide online and publicize their participation on social networks with the hashtag #10marsjelis.

Internet users can also use the same hashtag to share their reading photos on social networks.

What are the benefits of reading?

In 2022, reading has been declared a Great National Cause. So this year will be the perfect opportunity to reconnect with the pleasure of reading.

We can only be delighted with this Great National Cause 2022 because reading has beneficial effects on the brain and on health in general.

Reading is a form of brain training that works the memory and boosts concentration. It fosters discovery, emotion, learning, reflection and interaction between people.

It also develops empathy and emotional intelligence and reduces anxiety and the risk of depression.

Note: Throughout 2022, the National Book Center plans an ambitious program of national actions to promote books and reading to all French people. To learn more, we invite you to visit the CNL website (link below).
